Brad Vetter Joins NOTSTOCK 2022

We are super excited to have the amazing and talented Brad Vetter as a guest artist at this year’s event. Brad is a designer, letterpress printer, artist, and educator based in Louisville, Kentucky. He spends his time teaching workshops, printing letterpress show posters, building community, designing wine labels and other fun things, and making art.

Vetter’s posters are created with a combination of antique type/presses and a laser engraver. Some of his clients include Nike, Fossil, Anthropologie, Ryman Auditorium, Penguin Books, Boonville Cider House, Rebel Wine Co., Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Chevy, as well as bands like Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, John Prine, Foo Fighters, and Shovels and Rope.

Vetter will print live in the Northwest Arts Center Sept. 22 and 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

He will give a presentation of his work at 11 a.m. on Sept 22 in Student Center Conference Center.

His work will on display in the @northwestartscenter (lower level of the Minot State Library) Sept. 20-30 and will be for sale at the event.

NOTSTOCK Concert

In 20 days, NUR-D takes the stage at the Minot State University Amphitheater. Do not miss this special NOTSTOCK concert on Friday, Sept. 23. It’s going to be one for the ages!

One of the fastest rising stars in Minnesota's music scene, Nur-D burst onto the stage in 2018 and has been making headlines ever since. Performing on stages alongside national acts like Migos, Logic, Tyler The Creator, and The Wu Tang Clan, Nur-D is well on his way to becoming a household name. Voted Best New MN Artist in 2019 (Citypages), Headlining The "Best New Bands" Show in 2020 (First Avenue), and being voted Best Live Concert 2021 (Citypages), Nur-D brings an explosion of energy every time he hits the stage. 

Admission is free for students and minors with ID and $10 for all others. More info at link in bio.

Openers start at 6 p.m. and include Dakotah Faye and Little Chicago Funk. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

BONUS MATERIAL: Don’t miss Nur-D at the screening of the documentary Black Kid, White Town starring Nur-D, Thursday, Sept. 22 in the Student Center Conference Center. Nur-D will be available for Q&A. Snacks and prizes will be provided so get a seat early.

QuaranTIME: Lockdown with COVID Exhibit

QuaranTIME: Lockdown with COVID Exhibit will be on display in the Hartnett Hall Gallery (second floor of Hartnett Hall) on the Minot State University campus. Art and poetry submitted by North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCR) resident artists and authors will be on display. Participants were asked to explore, interpret, express and reflect on the impact and exposure to COVID while living in correctional settings.

This exhibit is part of a collaboration between the Minot State Art Department, Minot State Criminal Justice Department, the Rural Crime and Justice Center, and the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

The exhibit will be on display starting September 20. Reception and awards ceremony, including a virtual visit with the DOCR resident authors and artists, will be held Thursday, September 23, at 6 p.m. in Hartnett Gallery.

NOTSTOCK 2021 Exhibit and Closing Reception

The NOTSTOCK 2021 Exhibit will be on display September 9 through October 9 in the Northwest Arts Center. The exhibit will include art from some of this year's NOTSTOCK guests:

Artists reception at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 25 as part of the NOTSTOCK closing reception. Join us to meet and hear from the artists and for art, music, food, and drink.

Perspectives Exhibit at NOTSTOCK 2021

The Perspectives Exhibit is currently on display in the Flat Tail Press Gallery in the west staircase of the Minot State Student Center. The exhibit is open 8 a.m. until 9 p.m.

When I was asked to curate this show, the first theme that came to mind was perspectives and it quickly took root. I couldn’t shake it loose. The Oxford Dictionary defines perspective as “a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view.” Points of view and experiences outside my own are a few of many things which have been on my mind quite a lot this past year and a half. This exhibition is an opportunity for you, the viewer, to walk this space, “walk in someone else’s shoes,” so to speak. View these works with intent. How can you relate to these pieces? More importantly, what can you learn from them? Now, more than ever, we need to see our world from someone else’s perspective. - Sallie Mitchell
