Introducing Chloe Eudaly!

Since this year's theme is words and pictures, we needed a guest who knows something about both. Our search led us to Chloe Eudaly, a bookseller, publisher, writer, self-publishing educator and print devotee. She is the owner of Portland's legendary store, Reading Frenzy--a small, specialty bookshop/gallery/event space in Portland, Oregon. Founded in 1994, Reading Frenzy is an independent press emporium devoted to supporting independent/alternative media and culture.

In 2004 Eudaly launched a small publishing venture, Show & Tell Press, and has been publishing Crap Hound for her friend Sean Tejaratchi ever since. She also co-founded the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC), a studio and workshop space, in the late 1990s, in response to the enthusiasm and interest her customers had for zines and self-publishing. This unique organization maintains the largest small press lending library in North America, as well as an art gallery, computer lab, production room, and letterpress print shop.

While at NOTSTOCK, Chloe will lead two zine workshops from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 6 & 7 in the Student Center Conference Center. She will also give the presentation, Print(ed) Matters at 7 p.m. on October 6 in the Student Center Conference Center followed by a reception. She will discuss the pros and cons of print vs. electronic media, how the death of print has been over hyped, and how changes in the publishing industry as well as increased access to the means of production is helping spur a new wave of small and self-publishers.

Sneak Peek!

It's only one week until NOTSTOCK starts. Here are the T-shirt designs created by Landland and DWITT that you can print at this year's event. Go get your tees, bags, and other apparel and get to NOTSTOCK next week!

DWITT

DWITT (Dave Witt) makes his home in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. He describes himself as, "A veteran of the comic book, rock poster, gallery, bookstore, and even gaming worlds, DWITT might just be the most ubiquitous artist whose name you’ve never learned… until now." His background in so many art forms that combine words and pictures make him the perfect guest for this year's event.

Back for a second time (DWITT was our guest in 2008 as well), DWITT will be screen printing (and maybe drawing) October 6-8, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Beaver Dam in the Student Center on the Minot State University campus. He will also give a presentation of his work at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 6 and again at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 7 in Aleshire Theatre, Hartnett Hall. His work will be displayed in the Northwest Art Center, 2nd floor of Hartnett Hall at MSU, and at 62 Doors Gallery & Studios, downtown Minot. Come say hi to DWITT and pick up some of this work.
